This is a short explanation for the Horizon site's closure and relocation.

Last week an extremely serious malicious attack on the old site was made. We took the decision to shut the site down immediately until we could be certain that we had a completely safe environment for our users. We could find no trace of any malware in the form of trojans etc, nor could we find anything that suggested the site presented a direct security risk to our members. Offline and online scans could find no trace of any kind of malware. However, we were aware that the old site had been severely compromised.

For some time we'd wanted to upgrade to a newer version of our CMS, so the new site is running the very latest and most secure version of PHP Fusion on a new server provided by a different web host. Despite all the time and effort that had gone into the old site - by both staff and members - we have decided not to attempt to restore the old database to the new CMS. Although this means we are more or less starting the site again from scratch, by taking this option we can be absolutely sure that nothing unpleasant from the attack has migrated with us.

We hope you will all agree with us that the need for site and data security far outweighs the annoyance of having to recreate the Horizon site and online community.

Thank you, Website Mutoid, for all the work you (and probably others) have done to get the website up and running again. What a massive effort, over a very short period of time. It's much appreciated.

I didn't realise how much I could miss Horizon until it wasn't there anymore.

Thanks! I have to admit, the last few days have been rather a stressful blur for the site staff...

Hi, Judith, sorry you have had such a bad time. It does all seem to be working smoothly again now, though.

What's all this bondslave, rubbish, by the way?

Bondslave: see Hostage. It's just the lowest forum rank, that's all. Don't worry you'll leave it behind very, very soon!

Hello!!

Congratulations and thanks to all those who have re-created Horizon ... that was swift work! It's looking very nice too!

It's a real shame that the old site is lost, and I'm sure many of us would like to personally "thank" the individual(s) who did what they did to it Angry !! But there's no use dwelling on what's happened, it would be like trying to glue the Liberator back together again after "Terminal"!! Time to get on with more stuff ...

A shame to lose the old site, but then security is what matters, and the new place looks lovely! I never got to know the old forum, so I can't miss it like your more established members...

Oh, there was so much beautiful stuff on the old site!
Now we have to miss Exterminator's model building and so many, many good things and effort done by other members......
I will really miss it....

Well now, let's build us a new home on this wonderful website of Blakes 7 fandom!

Let's get on with it!

Well, if there is a bright side, it's that I managed to salvage all the artwork, pictures and photos from the old site, and we'll be putting them back in the galleries etc as soon as we can. But that doesn't make up for everything we have lost, no.

A little bit is always better than totally nothing, Website Mutoid.....

But I will miss a lot anyway. And I wasn't that long a board member yet.......

Not necessarily!! Although the text (including all my fantastic jokes ... umm ... maybe not!) has gone, all my photos and videos are still on Photobucket, so I hope to put up the threads again as "edited highlights" - mostly pictures with some explanatory text. I'll have to set aside some time for it.

Eek, now I'm going to have to try and remember what I was doing a year or so ago!! Shock

That's great news - the model building threads were something I wanted to look at especially upon joining, as myself and t'other half are quite keen modellers (well he is, I mostly paint!).

It's more than worth putting up your work again!
I'm sure you will re-experience (? translation?) while doing this and thus remember.

I'm glad the site is back and I quite like the new layout! Shame about some of the old stuff going missing though.
