Cheers Peter. It will be the first e-book I've ever read - I'm old fashioned and normally only do proper books. Wink

Poor Tully. Sad points = 30 (plus another 10 pending when I go through the draft script of Animals while watching the episode).

I promise you that it will be easier to read than the Liberator teleport coordinates display.

I'm glad to hear that - my skills in reading alien green symbols are somewhat limited.

Actually I wonder how the Liberator crew were able to read those symbols - some sort of telepathic link with Zen, maybe?

I'm also very keen to read this but being a complete novice to eBooks, could you explain the difference between the formats given, Peter? One is MOBI (mobile? for reading on smart phones etc?) and the other EPUB (electronic publication?). I'll be reading this on my eMac, so presume the EPUB is best for me?

And me?? I've got a kindle app and can manage that (occasionally). But don't know which one I need to buy to be able to read Warship on my phone.

The differences are helpfully explained here:
http://pcsupport....ubfile.htm
http://pcsupport....bifile.htm

I have a Kindle. I downloaded the MOBI file and e-mailed it to my Kindle address (as a personal document), and it now appears in the list of eBooks on my Kindle.

The EPUB format is suitable if you have the B&N Nook or Sony Reader, but there are also free readers that you can download, a Firefox add-on that you can get to read it in your web browser, or even iPhone and Android apps.

There is no current plan to do a printed version of the book.

Shame, I'm no technophobe but can't stand eTraviseaders. I also spend all day at work reading material off of a computer screen and have no desire to do the same when I get home.

Guess I'll just have to give this a miss then.

Same here, I too need a rest from computer screens when I'm relaxing. Novels should be paper and ink, sorry Peter. Frown

I have to agree, I prefer actually holding a book and reading, rather than a kindle screen. There's something rather satisfying about turning a page.Smile

And yet here we are, reading text on a computer screen Smile

Ah well. I know there are people who don't like the audios because they're not on telly. But there's no point buying stuff if you won't enjoy the experience so I shan't try to twist your arm.

No, but you should consider trying to twist the arm of your own company to ensure your product reaches the widest possible audience, but if your not worried about that then...............

Hi there

Printed books are very expensive to produce, and in the case of Warship it was not economically viable. But, as a special one-off, we felt that an ebook was worthwhile

I'm sorry if this is a disappointment to some fans, but I'm sure you appreciate we are looking to build a strong and enduring line of audios and books

Kind regards
David

I would love there to be a printed book. Apart from anything, it would give me something to scribble in when I meet people who have bought one -- including here at the GalifreyOne convention that I'm attending in Los Angeles.

If BF believed that there was a sufficient market for a printed version, and to justify the effort (including staffing) for producing, storing, distributing it etc. etc. then believe me, they would do one. Like you and me, they love B7, and they want to get B7 stuff to as many people as makes commercial sense. They're financially savvy, well-organised, and have a track record of publishing printed fiction -- including Blake's 7 novels. So their decision is not arbitrary.

I agree that it's a shame if people won't read an eBook, even if they could do so with free software on a PC. I agree it's not as straightforward as ordering a book through the post. I agree that it would be super to have a printed version. And I understand why, for the moment, they have not done so.

Ok, Peter, I will have a go. Can anyone explain what I have to do to read this ebook? I dont have a sophisticated phone, or a tablet.

Hi Lorna,

Here's some links to two e-book reader programs for PC. Both are unrestricted freeware, i.e. you get all the features for nothing.

http://calibre-eb...

http://www.mobipo...Reader.asp

Mobipocket has a smaller file size, however it converts all books into it's own format (.prc). [Edit: Also, the download for Mobipocket isn't working for me at present. If it's not up again later I'll let them know.]

I haven't used either of these but they are recommended by my go-to source for freeware, and I will try one or both of them myself. Give it a go or if you like I'll let you know once I've had a go and what I did/how it worked out for me.

Edit: Smilies, I hate you! Would love to an option to disable them in the Profile settings.
