Who's 7 - 1996 - Videos
President Solvite
Way back in the last century (first calendar) there were an excellent string of combined Blake's 7 and Doctor Who Conventions.

There were three in total in the years '92 (Telford), '94 (Croydon) and '96 Ashford

These are from the latter and took me back, when I was younger, slimmer and sillier Grin

The panel with Gareth and Paul are particularly good in my view, thanks to Mark for uploading them to YouTube.

https://www.youtu...pRjFd6-fJw - Paul and Gareth
https://www.youtu...6rA4KsHD5Q - PD, GT, SW and MB
https://www.youtu...0xbtLwML0k - SW and GT

EDIT
A link to one of these videos is on the news page, but I know these get missed by many and they entertained me and cheered me up on a rather grim Friday.

Interesting! I went to Who's 7 in 1992 and 1994, but not in 1996, so it will be nice to see what I missed!!

Ahh Who's 7 94...

The Queens Hotel, possibly the worst and most dangerous hotel in the UK Smile

Apparently beans and sausages were on ration in the old century. "You want more?!?!!!" reaction to a request for a second sausage to be added to a plate by one of my fellow breakfast diners.

I'd left university three months beforehand and had very little money. I slept in the video room (as I had in '92 at Telford). It was an inspired decision, since the video room was in better condition than any of the hotel rooms Grin

Yup these conventions catered very well for people on a budget.

The hotel's bar prices also fluctuated dependant upon who served you drinks

It's funny you posted these links just now, PS, as we are going to TARDIS con next weekend (Paula and Brad and Lorna!) and that was the outgrowth of a multi-media con called Vision's. It featured Blake's 7, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Babylon 5, Robin of Sherwood and Forever Night (or was it Knight?). I just came across a few home-made video tapes of our days at Vision's- A Gareth-Paul-Brian Blessed panel and many other things. Haven't seen the tapes in years. I'll have to do a YouTube search for them. Great days when we still had Blake's 7 actors at our US conventions, other than actors who were also in Doctor Who- like John Leeson, who I'm getting an autograph from this time.

And as for 'budget' cons, well, we still do it on a budget. We bring enough food for breakfast and lunch and only go out in the evening. Hey, we still have to as a 'special reception' for Michelle Gomez (Missy) is a hundred bucks a pop, and the same for another 'special reception' for the 1960's TARDIS companions. We politely declined those and will attend the contributor's party Thursday night where we will meet many of invited guests and get a few slices of pizza in the bargain. We've become experts at con slumming. lol

Nowt wrong with being budget aware, it means you can have a stab at an auction or maybe an extra photo or two! Smile

When we went to our first Whos 7 back in 92, I only just had a job (after a couple of redundancies) My car had a slipping clutch etc.. But we were determined to go and it was the best weekend I have had for a long time.

I hope you have fun at Tardis Con, and you get to meet a good range of guests. May all your autograph queues be short ones! Smile

@PS: They will (autograph lines). We have reserved tickets and first stab at tickets for autographs. You buy tickets months before and they have something called 'virtual lines' which means you can wait in the green room or walk in at the last moment and wave your ticket number and muscle through the line to the front. They seemed to be counting the baked beans one by one as they served them. It was like the old joke:

"The food was terrible!"
"Yes, and such small portions, too!"

There's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

Ahh yes indeed..

Shake the spoon to reclaim any errant bean before it decides to stray onto an attendees plate. You got better service and food quality at an army canteen Smile

I think the one redeeming feature of the restaurant was that it commanded a good view, its a pity it was of Croydon roof tops and not the hanging gardens of Babylon or herds of wildebeest striding across the plains.

I didn't visit the kitchens.. but it wasn't good.. Sad

But hey we all survived, and can laugh about it all these years later. Smile
