Av-ON
Space Commander Travis
I've been listening to the first series of BF audios, and as usual with Big Finish the production values are extremely high. One thing is really bugging me though (I may be wrong because I'm fairly new to the world of B7) why do the crew (especially Blake) pronounce 'Avon' so distinctly. As far as I recall they simply call him Avon in the TV series, but in the audios it's clearly Av- ON. It's such a small point but it really bugs me Wink Has this been noticed by anyone else ? Or is it just me being petty, I could of course even be imagining it.

Works both ways in the TV series as well (most notably in Season 4).

I'm glad you mentioned this Space Commander, as I've had similar thoughts myself.

I've been trying to find my copy of C F Millard's article about Nomenclature in B7. On a separate but related tack, I'm sure she made a point about the rest of the crew pronouncing Avon's name differently to the way he said it. Hearing the way they were saying it on the audios reminded me of this other observation.

Cool, I'm glad it's not just me then. I've only just started series 3, but as far as I remember I don't recall the crew calling him Av-ON in the first 26 episodes, it's so over pronounced in the audios that it's distracting me some what.

I find there's a number of distracting things in the audios - referring to 'the bridge' and going 'full ahead', all the OMGing (which seems so 'now' and so un-B7), etc etc as well as the usual overdescriptive waffle you get in these kind of productions as they try to set the scene.

I'm not familiar with the original series enough yet to notice such glitches in the BF stories, I do understand the descriptive narrative though, it's obviously a necessity in audio productions. I'm about to order the first six Chronicle sets, I've a lot of catching up to do, B7 overload Grin

Blake always seemed to call Avon, Aven
Just because I can't sing doesn't mean I won't.

He refers to him as "Ay-VON" in "Terminal" and "Blake".

He always had his own way of saying it, which varied with his mood.
When he's angry he spits it out as "Aven". When he's calm and dare I say affectionate he says it "Ay-von", in a mild tone.

In "Blake" he says it "Av-ooon".
I have concluded that Jenna is Blake-aware, Blake is Avon-aware, Avon is self-aware and Gan is rarely aware. Vila is merely wary. Cally is frequently more away than aware.
