...Or Pella, who's deeply annoying.

She's an interesting villain, especially it's not immediately obvious she is the villain.

The thing about good villains is that in their own minds, they're not villains but heroes. Pella no doubt believes in herself. But she's still annoying.

Annnnnd here is the Steed-ness in the story

The battle-of-the-sexes aspect. Although it turns out to be just the Seska, since the Hommiks are men and women living together, with Nina the real power behind the throne. That's why the Hommiks survive (albeit without Gunn Sar) and the Seska die.

Yep, spot on.

This scene between Avon & Pella is really embarrassing - the dialogue, the action, the performances... makes me cringe!

Yes Pella believes she is right. B7's villains are nearly always well portrayed in this way, from Travis and Servalan downwards.

In what way is she annoying?

It does lack a certain subtlety... but it is followed by the delightful scene between a sowing Gunn Sar and Nina.

So the ex-Seska know how to use technology don't they? So why not hook up their fellow Hommiks with some stuff?

There was a discussion about Doran on the Alpha Grades facebook group earlier in the week, and I defended him. It inspired my little fanfic, which was then flavoured to appeal to yourself, by revealing Doran was previously a family-loving teddy bear Grin

"Wife? But you're a Seska!"

Yep, because of course you can't be an independently minded woman AND be in a loving relationship with a member of the opposite sex.
