I like Vila standing up to Tarrant, but his actions before and after leave something to be desired.

There's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

I love all the continuity links in this episode. There's the London-type ship (Space Fall); men from a penal colony (Cygnus Alpha); the final proper appearance of Mutoids (I don't count the weird blonde things in Animals).

Vila is no saint, and does what he needs to survive. Even it's to ally himself to the slightly ambiguous Doran. This is in line with the original dark Vila, who suggests murdering Avon in Space Fall.

So, what was his crime? Vila is a thief, but Doran's problem is women... he doesn't like them. Chuckle, chuckle.

Yeah I know. The actor is good, his character is.... human I guess, capable of bad things and good. But unlike most humans the bad probably doesn't out way the more positive aspects.

This episode predates Empire Strikes Back and the bacta tank

There are distinct signs of lack of budget to this episode: the crude drawing of the planet, Colonel Astrid, KFC Moloch.

Thank goodness there's a cracking script and dialogue to get this moving along. B7 playing to its strengths.

As Hugbot isn't with us, I'll mention how lovely Dayna is looking this week.

There exist no realities where Vila gets sex with Servalan. I say that as a Vila fan.

"Give her to your men."

The ep would have been considerably better if that had been treated with the seriousness it implies. Servalan wouldn't walk elegantly off to be gang-raped, and when Doran offers her to Vila, she wouldn't have been lounging elegantly on a fur rug, but battered, bruised and chained to a wall like in Rumours.

It's the jokey tone that I object to throughout this ep.

Avon and the apple... the bit I remembered from watching this as a six-year-old!

Servalan maintains dignity whenever possible. Rumours is such a humiliation, because she can't even do that. There's plenty of episodes of Servalan remaining elegant in inelegant surroundings. Aftermath is a prime example.

According to Hollywood convention dating from the earliest history of the silent movies, an apple is used to symbolise sexual attraction. So that's Avon & Dayna recreating That Moment in 'Aftermath'?

Vila and Servalan are a fun double act. A shame we don't see them paired together more than this.
