Wow... Hugbot. I've actually just said 'Wow!' out loud as I recognised the singer.
That's just heart-stoppingly wonderful. Dark & Stormy Night, Heroes AND Blake, all in one story that moved me to tears.

Hugbot, that was amazing. And I'm so glad that Gan has a place with the heroes.

Great story, Hugbot, combining three different prompts from three different months. I'm not sure who the Indian is, but I certainly recognised the singer.

TT I enjoyed Sand for 4 year olds from Servalan's perspective very much - it was very melancholy . And Hugbot, great quiz which gave me the idea for the following fic ( which doesn't really do your great idea justice) and I loved Starlight Casino!
Xxxxxx

It played the long game, if it could be called a game when the entities it was playing with were not aware that a game was in progress.

It did not enlighten them. Wisdom must be gathered, not given. When it ended, they would know. This was Its purpose: to give those It served what they truly desired.

It's first crew was motivated only by the System's command that they keep their home world safe. Encountering the small invasion fleet while on patrol, their minds were blank to any other wish than: Victory at any price. And so, as It was programmed to, It gave them that wish, transporting each to a different alien ship. A minor adjustment to the frequency through which the System transmitted commands and each experienced a berserker rage, causing sufficient distraction for Zen to destroy the enemy fleet.

It's new crew's desires took different forms but they all represented a path to freedom. It accepted this and tried to serve them. First It created a wardrobe room for its pilot, to look her best for the man she loved. A treasure room next for the Embezzler. Access to the transporter and new weaponry for Blake. Food and drink woven from Vila's most exotic imaginings and for Cally, the medical supplies she needed to heal amid so much death. It failed with its attempt to free Gan from his limitations but before It could try again he had freed himself.

It was not enough. Blake's crusade prevented the others from achieving their wishes and so It decided they must be separated for ever. Avon, freed, could run the ship as his private fiefdom, Blake find others more committed to the rebellion. Jenna, bruised by Blake's indifference, would heal once free again to choose her own path, Vila would find a bolt hole and Cally escape the destruction that was confining her soul.

But circumstances forced it to alter Its plans. It could not allow Vila and Cally to die and reluctantly accepted the new crew members and their own desires in the process. But as It led them all into the adventures intended to give them what they craved, It discovered that Avon was obsessed with finding Blake, unable to be free of the man until he had discovered his fate. It had, It realised, mistaken Avon's heart. Loyalty, not greed was his defining quality and it was enslaving the crew as surely as Blake's obsessions had enslaved him.

The journey to Terminal was intended to bring about a final meeting but it had proved to be a trap. Zen had failed his crew. And then, in the last second of the ship's existence, It had operated the teleport at the instruction of the woman who had boarded it and had found Itself lodged in her mind.

Ahh the pain It endured as it struggled to reconcile its debt to Its old crew and the desires of Its host, but slowly, It absorbed data, shaped suggestions, planted information and finally, prompted by Gan's example, found an answer on Gauda Prime.

The host's desire for ultimate control was satisfied as one by one, they fell.

And Zen rejoiced that It had finally given them their liberation.

@ Anniew: Being the source of inspiration for another story is the best compliment a writer can get! Not doing my idea justice? On the contrary, it is fascinating to see what a complex, ingenious and convincing tale you wove from those few lines! (Hooray, I have now finally caught up on the May fanfic thread ... one day before it ends.)

Thank you all for your comments on my stories. Glad you liked them, especially Starlight Casino with he cryptic references. To fill you in on the background of this story:

French actor Pierre Brice, who passed away in 2015, was extraordinarily famous in Germany for playing the Apache chief Winnetou in a series of (quite ridiculous) films based on the novels of pulp writer Karl May, and in his heyday, a large proportion of the female population of Germany (including my mother and my ex-wife) had a serious crush on him. In Britain he may be mostly known as the male lead, Adam, in Star Maidens, alongside Gareth Thomas’ Shem.

Austrian actor Dietmar Schönherr, who portrayed Commander Cliff Alistair McLane in Raumpatrouille, passed away in 2014. At the announcement of his death, a commentator said that he would now be reunited with his wife – Danish singer and actress Vivi Bach, who died the year before – in the Starlight Casino. Originally, the Starlight Casino was the bar where McLane and his crew used to booze up before and after their missions, but it is also a very apt name for the bar beyond the dark and stormy night.

It wasn't supposed to be that way. It was supposed to be another fun-filled synopsis of an episode, but Servalan is quite melancholy in Sand and that translated into the fan fic. Actually I enjoyed getting into her head - I must do that more often!

I almost changed the title to Sand For Nine Years Old due to its different tone, but kept it for Four Year Olds as I reasoned Servalan would speak the same to people whatever age they were.

Blake is a bit of a big kid himself, Avon would treat young children with disdain and exploit them, while Servalan just wouldn't care how old they were.

Hugbot, thanks very much for the explanation to the references - it still worked wonderfully even if you didn't know them. And Hugbot and Annie, between you what have done to Zen? Shock Love it! - even the most straightforward of B7 characters ends up with a dark side Wink

PIRI MUST DIE! (or BOYS WILL BE BOYS)

“User to Leo, Domo the 9th, five to kill”.

“Play it once more”, said Avon.

“User to Leo, Domo the 9th, five to kill.”

“It’s her”, said Del. I did not know her, but the rest of the crew did. And she had put some one on our tail – to kill us.

The plan of Avon was daft, but even so, we went to Domo.

Leo was on that ship. The dark ship. Avon, Del and I went on the ship to kill Leo, but Avon and Del let the girl get in the way, and Leo was free.

The girl Piri. We had a job to do, but Del was in love with her. What a fool.

Avon was not much help. And why did we have to have that old man with us? It was all mad.

It was up to me to work it out. If only I had hush from Piri. I gave her a slap. A hard slap – it was fun to do so.

What was Avon up to? He made a cock up, and then he made a mess of it once more. The old man was dead, and we were next on the list. Del and Avon were not up to it - it was down to me.

And then it hit me – yes, it was her! He was a fake. She was Leo, not him.

Avon had got tied up by Piri. What a prat. Piri had her crab all set to kill Avon. I had to save him and I did. The crab was now on Piri.

“Owww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” She died in a lot of pain. I was not sad – I did not like her.

I’d had to save the day and save Avon. It was not the last time that I had to do that.

THE END

“Del, take it away…”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes, it’s a last year tale. You have to sing - Vere says so!”
“Oh, OK then...”

I see a big, big star
In a big, big sky
Past the edge of time
Way past my mash and pie
Peas are here
Only the fair meet the eye.
Oh my love,
It’s when we must fly,
And let the moon go by,
Just you and I.

Come, hit the star dust tail,
We will lob our cap at Zen;
We'll get Roj out of jail.
And we will sail to Del Ten.

The time goes by
And Og is the man
If our love is true
We will find our Gan.
We move on,
It's here that we are;
That big, big star,
That big, big star,
That huge, huge, big, big star!

TT I'd have paid good money to hear that sung over the credits - especially after the Plaxton horror, the Orbit trauma, the Zeona fiasco, and the Blake debacle!

Whew! Thank you, Travisina. It means I get this opportunity to say what an amazing collection May's challenges have produced. I haven't the time to comment on each individually but I have read and enjoyed them all.

The variety, the spectrum of emotions evoked, the range of themes and sheer enthusiasm has to be commended. I must mention trevortravis' hugely entertaining series and the very welcome contributions from the first-timers.

Thank you all for embracing these challenges - and exceeding my expectations every time. Now go check out June's challenge...

Here’s another thank you to you Travisina.

I think this month May brought us breath-taking stories, as well as in the emotional, dark and in the humoristic sense.
I can't add much to the comments on you individually. Just Amazing, WOW!

Just to mention, the great story telling and analytical talents of Hugbot, the neat humour of TT, the amazing writers talents of Travisina and Anniew., the thought provoking talents of Peladon andMs Bookmark, Brad’s wonderful brain storms. Please don’t feel offended if I don’t mention your name, be sure I’ve read your work and hugely enjoyed it.

I don’t know how to describe in short what the stories did to me, evoking emotions, laughter and tears.
Thank you all!
