Rewatch - Robin of Sherwood

Looking for Jeremy Bulloch- personal favorite of mine... -P

His name on the cast list helped sell the dvd to me, especially as its a similar role to the one he had in Dr Who: The Time Warrior.

His audio reading of that Dr Who was very good too, he has a great reading voice.
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

I've got to admit that this series is so realistic in costume, props and locations. Kind of makes you laugh to see Robin Hood with Errol Flynn, great though it is. -P

Basil Rathbone as Gisbourne makes up for any shortcomings Grin

Been watching Ray Winstone. I recently read where his daughter is now an actor. -P

I fell in love with Rathbone as a child. Loved that film and I think developed my love of England because of it. -P

hmm... have really warmed to Ray's performance style. Everything TT says about Brian Blessed being LOUD and OVER THE TOP for me is multiplied with Ray Winstone! It doesn't help that in the UK he is constantly on TV bellowing at audiences to BET 365 NOW!!! on soccer matches.

I can understand that; I grew up on repeats of his RH film and of all his Sherlock Holmes movies which I love!

I remember Phil Rose at Vision's con. He tried to whip up enthusiasm at a panel by doing the typical panto lines to get the audience into shape and no one knew what to do in the hall as we had no idea what panto was at the time. -P

I love Jeremy Brett as Holmes, but my favorite is Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in those war-time films. -P

It took me a while to warm to her. She's quite badly marginalised in the first half dozen or so episodes with hardly any lines to say and being the poor pathetic little woman, but she becomes more central and stronger by this point. Also, I was a big fan of Lucy Griffiths' portrayal in the 2006 series (went to London especially to see her and ask her autograph) and this Marian is not the same central, dominant figure at any point really.

Drifting off-topic, but I very highly recommend the Big Finish audio dramas starring Nick Briggs as Holmes.

What I like here is that even the 'action' scenes have a slow, steady pace in the direction and editing.

Rula Lenska, in dictating the letter and talking down to her subordinates, does really well not to over-play the part.
