Distant Star - intended for Season D end credits
trevor travis
It might work at the end of Headhunter, though. The jangly instrumental version works really well after Headhunter. Maybe it would still work with Steven singing over the top of it as well.

There you go, it would work with one episode out of 13. Pfft

I'll allow you Headhunter, and possibly Gold - to go with Avon's maniacal laugh. Gosh, that's two eps out of 13.

"It will be pink asteroids next".

3 out of 13?

Although not too sure about "Gold" myself, I always consider it to a rather "down" ending. Angry

And given that Og is just winded, whereas Justin is definitely dead, I always consider the end of "Animals" to be quite jolly - ding dong Justin is dead!!! Pfft

No, not Rescue. Despite Vila's quip, the horror elements are too strong. But possibly "I sell my skill"? For Season Derek, that's quite upbeat.

I guess there's also Cally's death to consider; it's not the jolliest of episodes.

Neither is "Power" really - there's quite a few deaths towards its end. Gunn Sar's death always makes me very sad, as Servalan's perfect partner dies without her ever meeting him. Wink

Oh well, just "Headhunter" it is then unless... what about "Assassin"? (arguably the last episode which ends with the crew winning!).

That's sad as well because Piri dies Angry
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

I've voted no, because of the utterly inappropriate lyrics. Singing about 'peace and beauty' after the end of... well, any Derek episode really, but especially Blake, is just brimming over with wrongness. A song of this type is more suited to Gerry Anderson's shows, (like those for Fireball XL5 and Stingray) but absolutely not B7!

That's a very good point. Picking a Derek episode at random:

"What about Dr Plaxton"
"Who?"

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

"I'm glad she's not dead. I needed to kill her myself."

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

Dayna/Tarrant sobbing because Justin/Zeeona is dead.

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

"You know what you always say Vila. You're always safe with me".

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

Oh shit, everyone is dead!!!!

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

There is a just slight change in tone there, perhaps Grin

I've been mulling it over. A more appropriate song to go over the end credits of Assassin:

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!

Whilst I love nearly everything about D, the disco end theme doesn't fit so i can't see lyrics being any worse. At least I'd have something to cheer me up after the Peckinpah Bloodbath.

My two daughters watched in amazement one episode of XL5...okay, horror...and then proceeded to pelt the telly with various soft toys. They were only about 10 and 8 and could not believe just how sexist Steve Zodiac was. All he had said was, "Hey, Venus, I have some friends coming over tonight...could you come and cook dinner?"
I thought that quite a reasonable request, after all, he's a chap, and he couldn't cook...mind you, at our girls only secondary school, there was a proper flat where they taught you to do housework and prepare a dinner menu for when your husband brought his work associates home. So Steve's request didn't seem out of the ordinary to me...but times have changed since then; hence our telly being bombarded by an assortment of toys!!!

I voted "no".
As for the reason, mentioned before, about the lyrics that do not fit in with the Blake's 7 signification.

BTW the first part aside, then the rest of that song appears to me as a duet.

To quote the Marvel Winter Special:

Early during the production of Season D, incoming producer Vere Lorimer decided to arrange a recorded version of the Blake's 7 theme. He personally wrote some accompanying lyrics to complement Dudley Simpson's original score and made plans to have Steven Pacey sing them. Unfortunately, his plans did not see fruition. Here, printed in its entirety, is Distant Star, the Blake's 7 theme that never was...

Distant Star

There's a distant star
in a distant sky
past the edge of time
way past Gemini.
Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I.

Come, hit the Stardust Trail,
we'll throw our cap at Mars;
we'll catch a comet's tail,
and we'll sail
to the stars!

Though the years go by
like a silver stream,
if our love is true,
we will find our dream.
Travellin' on,
suddenly that's where we are;
That distant star,
that distant star,
that shining distant star!
