Distant Star - intended for Season D end credits
trevor travis
To quote the Marvel Winter Special:

Early during the production of Season D, incoming producer Vere Lorimer decided to arrange a recorded version of the Blake's 7 theme. He personally wrote some accompanying lyrics to complement Dudley Simpson's original score and made plans to have Steven Pacey sing them. Unfortunately, his plans did not see fruition. Here, printed in its entirety, is Distant Star, the Blake's 7 theme that never was...

Distant Star

There's a distant star
in a distant sky
past the edge of time
way past Gemini.
Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I.

Come, hit the Stardust Trail,
we'll throw our cap at Mars;
we'll catch a comet's tail,
and we'll sail
to the stars!

Though the years go by
like a silver stream,
if our love is true,
we will find our dream.
Travellin' on,
suddenly that's where we are;
That distant star,
that distant star,
that shining distant star!

Was this to the same tune as the B7 theme tune?
"If you didn't want the answer, you shouldn't have asked the question."

Yes.

Almost anything would improve season D Grin
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

Yup, that jangly theme to the end credits of Season D was orginally due to have Steven Pacey singing over the top of it.

Well for what it's worth I think it would sound corny with Steven singing over the titles, big fan though I am!

True, but this is Derek we're talking about. Grin

I've voted no because Season D is perfection, and it's impossible to improve on perfection Angry

Travisina
I've voted no, because of the utterly inappropriate lyrics. Singing about 'peace and beauty' after the end of... well, any Derek episode really, but especially Blake, is just brimming over with wrongness. A song of this type is more suited to Gerry Anderson's shows, (like those for Fireball XL5 and Stingray) but absolutely not B7!

...Way out in space together.
Conquerors of the sky.
My heart would be a fireball.
A fireball.
Every time I gaze into your starry eyes....

Yay! I love that theme! Much prefer it to the soppy 'Marina' Grin

Same here! Loved the Fireball theme straight away, but the Stingray closing theme is a bit YUCK*

*as a child it was yuck. Now I realise its Troy's fantasy about betraying Atlanta with another woman, even more so! Angry

Yes, it's a rather adult, slightly dodgy song to have at the end of a children's programme, isn't it? I wonder if they had James Bond in mind - Atlanta was voiced by - and her puppet modelled - on Lois 'Miss Moneypenny' Maxwell, the epitome of unrequited love.

Much as I love Steven and his voice, I cannot see those lyrics being used for a program like Blake's 7. Especially having those lyrics over episode 52- Blake. -Paula

I want to vote yes, for similar reasons to SD, and because Steven singing is always good. However Travisina's right, the lyrics and style are totally wrong for B7. That said, I love the 'Marina' song at the end of stingray, PS and I always sing it loudly together when it comes on!

Well I don't really remember Stingray from when I was a child, and haven't seen it as an adult either, but quite tempted to watch it now!!

I want to hold Angry Angel and President Solvite to the promise that they will sing the Marina song from Stingray for me at the April meeting! I love that song! The Fireball XL5 theme is also great, even though I have never seen the program. -Paula

The opening credits of Stingray are just so thrilling! The old bongo drums going like the clappers and 'Anything can happen in the next half hour!!!!' by Commander Shaw, or is it Shore? Anyway, the final closing credit music is just so......
'Marina, Aqua Marina,
What are these strange enchantments that start whenever you're near.....'
All sung to her swimming in the fish tank...err ocean, with Troy looking all wistful and Atlanta looking all jealous.

I can drive Grandson crazy by singing the end credit music to Fireball XL5!!
But what really drives him mad is when he picks up a 'Double Decker' chocolate bar, and I lurch into that show's theme music...he has now learnt to ask for a Twix, or a Mars bar; anything but a Double Decker!!!
Cold.....you don't know the meaning of cold.
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of the window!!!

That's a very good point. Picking a Derek episode at random:

"What about Dr Plaxton"
"Who?"

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

"I'm glad she's not dead. I needed to kill her myself."

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

Dayna/Tarrant sobbing because Justin/Zeeona is dead.

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

"You know what you always say Vila. You're always safe with me".

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

Or:

Oh shit, everyone is dead!!!!

Half a minute later:

"Peace is there,
only beauty meets the eye.
Oh my love,
that's where we must fly,
and let the world go by,
Just you and I."

There is a just slight change in tone there, perhaps Grin
