I've won a ticket for Friday and Sat urday of this convention being held in Pwllheli (pronounced "Poo-fell-ee"!) in North Wales so it's an excuse for a ride on the Cambrian Coast Railway. It will be me first ride over the new bridge over the River Briwet near Portmeirion. More info at the website:-

Congratulations, Richard! Have a great time and remember to share your photos with those of us who could not attend! Grin

I've now got my accommodation and train tickets sorted. The venue is the former Butlin's Holiday Camp near Pwllheli. It even has it's own train station, Pen-y-Chain on the Cambrian Coast line with direct trains to Birmingham International:-

Have a brilliant time!

One of the guests there is Una McCormack, former Horizon member and now professional writer of B7 Liberator Chronicles audios for Big Finish (Risk Management and Ministry of Peace) and bestselling DS9 novels. If you see her, say hi from me?

Lucky devil! Yes please thank Una for her wonderful story The Ministry of Peace. And her entertaining tweets.

Will do! She's on a panel in the main hall "Void" at 12:30 and another in "Starbucks" at 16:00

My trains were all on time yesterday and the weather was lovely. Just about to have breakfast in my hotel before getting the bus over to the venue. Amazingly for such a rural area there are buses in the evening! In Wilts where I live the council has just axed all the evening buses!

I must locate ear defenders by 14:30 as that's when Brian Blessed is on!

I saw Una's panel in "Void" (the main hall) but alas I didn't get to chat to her. I have to say I didn't like the venue at all. There was nowhere that you could just sit and chat. The on-site Starbucks was tiny and was also being used for some of the events. The bar was in the main hall and you couldn't really talk over what was going on.

Brian Blessed was great. It was worth going just to see him and he also made sure everyone who queued for his autograph got done.

We also got to see the World Premier of "Pandorica" a low budget post apocalyptic file shot on location in Epping Forest and the Lake District. This was followed by a cast and crew panel which was quite interesting.

I don't think I shall go to any more cons at that venue but I certainly recommend The Marine Hotel in Criccieth where I stayed.

Isn't he brilliant? Hubby and I met him when he was the guest at a special screening of Flash Gordon - he watched the film from the row behind us in the audience (!) and afterwards did a Q&A and signed autographs. He was absolutely wonderful, and his enthusiasm for the film (when some actors are cynical about their SF pasts, naming no names Wink ) was sheer delight.
