Rewatch - Dr Who

Martha saves the day, while John Smith proves to be a bit rubbish Grin

This is a great scene, one of Martha's best moments. I love the "scared and holding a gun! Wanna risk it?" line...
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

"God, you're rubbish as a human!" Grin Grin

The battle of the school is an outstanding sequence, largely because of the role played in it by the Doctor in human form...

Who's that? The Head?

The linking into the Great War is more effective on screen, throughout the second episode.

Yes, that's him. He's been in a few good things.

Suddenly they're playing soldiers... for real. A portent of what happens to the kids in a years time.

The pre-Victorian army pipe music inspired march theme of the scarecrows is very effective.

Yes, it's done much more deliberately. I suspect that's the influence of RTD.

Have you ever seen Daniel Radcliffe in My Boy Jack? It's almost a perfect companion drama to this, and co-stars the the guest of the next episode Carey Mulligan alongside Leisure Hive and Rumours actor David Haig...

This whole thing is brilliant, I can never decide if this or Blink is my favourite NuWho story.

No haven't seen it.

The mental link between the family members is another difference that I have only just picked up on; if there was a telepathic link between the Aubertides then it wasn't used as quite so much of a plot shortcut!

I suspect it's a shortcut since the book version is probably twice as long as the TV adaption.

Yes, it's a good shortcut device and keeps things flowing.

The sacrifice that John Smith has to make is further forward in the TV version.
