B7 Model Prop Video Compilation
clanger68
Hi All,

For the recent RTGP3 event Clare asked me if I could prepare a video to show off the models and props of Blake's 7, as Mat Irvine was unfortunately unable to attend we thought it might help fill the gap.

I happily agreed and what I thought I'd do was take every single model, prop, miniature set sequence out into separate files and edit it into a coherent video, I didn't realise how much footage that would actually entail, six weeks later and with a deadline looming I got a video together.

https://www.youtu...zwmgqSnHjM

If you can it is worth setting the quality to HD, flows better.

I've uploaded it to youtube, be warned its over 45 minutes long, if you do have the endurance to watch it I hope you enjoy it.

One thing I learned from doing it, well two actually, the first is that Blake's 7 was blessed with some damn fine effects work.

The second is that if Clare says; " Can you................" then run for the hills!

Only joking, it was an absolute pleasure.

Enjoy.

Andy

Great work Andy!

I know I'm a bit thick but what's the spaceship Liberator sidles up to around the 21'04 mark?

Thanks for the kind words everyone, the vfx on Blake's 7 is often underrated and unfairly ridiculed, hopefully this video helps to show off some of the amazing work they did on the show.

A few people have asked about that ship Joe, it is the Kairopan transporter from Harvest of Kairos.

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Andy. That's definitely one of my less-watched episodes!

I've always liked the Kairopan transporter design.
Like Servalan's organic command ship, its SO at odds to other technology the Federation uses - does anyone know who built it and if it still exists?

Aww, you should give it another chance. It's one that has grown on me over the years and I really enjoy it now.

You know, I watched this as if it were an episode, I couldn't take my eyes off it. What's 'The Sea Devil' appearance doing in there? Also I noticed the 'Babylon 5 sound track' being a feature length addition.

Terrific addition of information texts.

Nice Scorpio shots. So designed by Bill Francis and built by Bill Thornton of Babylon 5 fame(sad it was so CGI though Babylon 5, still a great series in it's own right..... just not as good as Blakes 7 Smile ).

Not sure why but the sound cut out half way through. Still a great video to watch if you enjoy the Blakes 7 models and props. It wouldn't have be the great show it is without them.

The visit to Mecron that followed this was great too. A nice way to see Winspit.

Hi All, thanks again for the kind comments.

SR - I tried to make each sequence make some kind of sense whilst showcasing the models etc, not as easy as I'd hoped.

The Scorpio was designed by Jim Francis, built by Ron Thornton who did indeed work on many things afterwards, including Babylon 5. Check out how similar the B5 station shuttle and the Shuttle from Orbit are.

I think maybe the sound cuts out in places for you as I don't own the copyright to the soundtracks and may be prohibited in some regions.
