The beginning of the show tackling attacks on present day London and the Home Counties! This story has more holes than your average slice of Swiss cheese, but it established a style and format that will serve the show well until the present day; most notably in the outstanding seventh season in 1970...
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

A reminder for this rewatch, due to start in just under an hour and a half.

Apologies, I'm off out again today (tis the summer!!), I will try to catch up with the rewatches I've missed at some point.

I think the last Sunday rewatch I made was The Time Meddler... although it does mean I'm lucky enough to miss the horrific Dodo Grin Grin Grin

GC, love the fact you're now making up your own episode titles. Wink

I think I must be less kind, because I would have picked "Good riddance Dodo" for Part 2 Wink

The War Machines marked a big turning point in the history of the show; for the first three years, Doctor Who had been about 'otherness' and taking the viewer somewhere strange and exciting. All the historical settings had been outside the UK so that, even when visiting the Earth, the series was taking most viewers into unfamiliar landscapes. We had the consecutive exceptions of Planet of the Giants and Dalek Invasion of Earth, but these too had premise that made the settings unfamiliar in some way. But this story changes the game! From here, the show will progressively become more about 'otherness threatening the familiar' and would ultimately lead to the iconic UNIT era. The next three historical settings, in season four? All based in the UK; Cornwall, Scotland and Victorian England. We also get threats to present day London in The Faceless Ones, The Web of Fear and the Invasion; times were changing, and they start changing right here...

The first time the Doctor is in the present day and I think it would have been cool to check in with Ian and Barbara.

It's pretty well established throughout the show over the years that he always did; it was his identify and the Tardis the were secret. It's not even retconned really, because it's implied in An Unearthly Child that his and Susan's subterfuge is well set up at official levels, it's merely that Ian and Barbara being just teachers and not school management don't know anything about it...

Oh yes, the classic show didn't do that sort of thing often enough!

The Post Office Tower, now the BT Tower

It used to have a revolving restaurant on the top floor, but it was closed to the public after a terrorist attack.
