Dark Matter drawing on Blake's 7?
JustBrad
There is also the Trickle Down effect.

B7 had a definite influence on Farascape and Babylon 5. Other shows may be drawing inspiration from these newer shows for inspiration with no knowledge of B7.

I watched Dark Matter up until about episode 8, which is when my Foxtel subscription gave out, but I quite enjoyed what I saw, and thought the resemblances less pronounced as it progressed.

I quite enjoyed what I saw. It was something I could just sit down and mindlessly watch once a week. I think I lot of these programmes are a continuum, as Brad says. There is no doubt that, were Blake's 7 being made today, it would be a very different type of show; as for Big Finish, I think for the most part that they do a pretty good job of evoking the feel of those old television episodes without slavishly copying them. And at least by listening, we can imagine what it would be like with good special effects!

Just watched episode 11, and it still holds up well. Indeed the more you watch it the less it feels like B7.. Connection (if any?) was very tenuous at best anyway. The Raza looks a bit like The reimagined Galactica (but even that is stretching it a bit)

Whilst Dark Matter not being up there with Space Above and Beyond, B5 or Odyssey 5 (yet) it nevertheless is more compelling viewing than say Dominion or some other shows that I am currently watching.

I just started watching it, I am in episode 5 right now. The similarities are therem especially in the beginning but it is shaping into something else, I think. Iīll see.

But it is just nice to have a normal, space sci-fi on TV again. Donīt get me wrong, I love all sci-fi, but there are far too many time travelling, alternate realities or dystopic stories around right now so it is nice to just have...fun Smile

Finally getting around to watching this and just about fell out of my chair when they talk about smuggling a drug with the street name of "shadow"!

I had to battle through the first half dozen or so episodes, though. It was so cliched it was like watching a Red Dwarf parody... its like they watched RD and said,.. yeah... that's how to make a serious SF show. Weird. but it gradually got better..

And it also got cancelled Sad They had a draft for 5 seasons but SyFy, for some weird reason, thought they would cancel one sci-fi show...when they finally started producing some! The Expanse is good, too but DM is a real shame. Even bigger when SyFy didnīt allow the show to move to another channel. Sad

And now a replica human called Rachel! How tongue-in-cheek is this show supposed to be?

Joss Whedon claimed B7 had an influence on Firefly/Serenity.

IIRC, he was an army brat as a child who had lived in England in the late 1970's/early 80's.
