Was there very minimal location filming here SD, or was it all stock footage?

It was all stock footage in this one.
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

That's a fantastic combination as well. I do count her, since I read the novelisation first, and that has her as a companion for several months, by putting a gap between the two havles of the Masterplan. What a shame we can't rewatch the Masterplan.

The Master Plan is one of my fave Who stories period. Love listening to the soundtrack.

One of my favourite stories too! Both the soundtrack and the audiobook are excellent.

In which case, the director does a fine job. I was left wondering if there was a little bit of location mixed in.

Of course... we could make an exception to our own rules and add in the audio to our rewatch schedule. Otherwise we skip straight to the Ark after this....

Steven's lack of belief is nice.... these days, the companions except it a little too easily.

Yes agree. These day they get in the TARDIS and get told it travels through space and time and they response by saying in a very matter of fact way "Oh good, lets go."

In defence of RTD, that particular change in the format was due to John Nathan-Turner and Eric Saward; the last classic companion who had scenes where she has to deal with the Tardis as a fantasy concept was Tegan in Logopolis. Shortcutting the wonderment was an 80s change that has never been put back.

That's true enough, actually. There's a lot of 80s companions who showed no wonderment at all.

1066. And somedoby just turned off a light switch. And there's a gramophone record.

Best to stick with rewatches imo, especially as a Masterplan relisten would take 6 weeks!

It was that aspect more than anything else that hooked my attention as a 9 year old watching the series for the first time.

William Hartnell is on holiday this week, so Peter becomes the leading man despite being in his first full serial.

He carries it well and it gives the viewers a chance to get to know him.

Slightly off topic, but it's interesting to see Alethea Charlton in SF/fantasy drama with a contemporary setting in Out of the Unknown; a forthcoming rewatch too!

Indeed, and it gave them the confidence to make The Massacre as the first story starring the companion without the Doctor being involved except as a framing device for the plot.
