Although Ian and Barbara are my favourite Hartnell era companions, but I'm not keen on either the characters (or performances) of Susan or Vicki; so in terms of favourite complete line up it has to be Steven and Dodo for me. |

That's a fantastic combination as well. I do count her, since I read the novelisation first, and that has her as a companion for several months, by putting a gap between the two havles of the Masterplan. What a shame we can't rewatch the Masterplan. |

Vicki getting defensive about the TARDIS's faults. She's great, such an improvement on Susan. |

Indeed - I think he'd already been in a few Carry On Films. |

Was there very minimal location filming here SD, or was it all stock footage? |

What a shame we can't rewatch the Masterplan. The Master Plan is one of my fave Who stories period. Love listening to the soundtrack. |

I love the early mystery of the Monk character, and in the way he seems to recognise the TARDIS. |

That bearded guy on the hill is one of the actors who popped up in a few Prisoner episodes. Most notable in A Change of Mind, where he screams that he is inadequate and "BELIEVE ME!" |

I like the way it's not obvious what time we're in straightaway. It adds to the mystery. This is a particulary good Hartnell Episode 1. |

Aha!!!!! 1066. Nice reference through the name of the King. Much cleverier than the Doctor bluntly asking the question. |

In defence of RTD, that particular change in the format was due to John Nathan-Turner and Eric Saward; the last classic companion who had scenes where she has to deal with the Tardis as a fantasy concept was Tegan in Logopolis. Shortcutting the wonderment was an 80s change that has never been put back. |
