Looking forward to this one as it was my 'way in' to science fiction fandom, and Doctor Who in particular, on a personal level if not in terms of meeting other fans and actively getting involved. The story was repeated in the early 1990s on BBC2 and was the first time I watched the show at age where I was starting to remember what I had seen after the television was switched off. The Time Meddler is still a favourite now, and so much of the ongoing format is actually established here with fantasy elements in a historical setting and the first encounter with a new member of the Doctor's own people.

I already know that I'm working next week so, as is often the way, I'll be rewatching the whole story tomorrow and posting a comment about episodes 3 and 4 in advance.
Reversing the polarity of the neutron flow. I bet that means something. It sounds great.

I grew up reading the Doctor Who novelisations, and by 1987-1989, I enjoyed these more than the actual programme itself (I had an intense dislike of McCoy, which has mellowed a lot throughout the years).

My very favourite novelisation was "The Time Meddler", written by Target editor Nigel Robinson, which I first read in 1988 and read several times over the following couple of years. And I got an A for the English essay (a sci-fi story) which borrowed the odd descriptive phrase from this book Grin

I wasn't overkeen on the TV version to begin with, because the book is a bit more serious, and Peter Butterworth didn't match the Monk I had in my head.

But since then it's become my favourite Hartnell TV story. Fantastic story.

Brief tease that a Dalek is in this... although we know Steven survived the "Chase" (even if we didn't see him enter the TARDIS).

I think this is my favourite companion combination from the Hartnell years.... Vicki and Steven.

This was Donald Tosh's first story as script editor, but he had no input on this one since he trusted Dennis Spooner to know what he was doing. Good call too!

Steven's lack of belief is nice.... these days, the companions except it a little too easily.
