Anybody seen the Klute?
vening all, after a super show at the Space Centre again this year, decided to have a go at making a chess computer beater.....

So after taking a load of close-ups at the show, started making a box.

After spending days going through the photos and making sketches of the tubes and sizes, ordered some tubes and rods.

Next was the brain ball, drilled and etched and on a ring made from clear tube with filed groves.

Next job was to sort out the wiring, 3 flashing bulbs and a bullet bulb, the brain bulb is painted red, so used a bullet led one for the brain.

The prototype box was great so got another one laser cut.

Next was the button and a test fit.

With the advise from Andy, got the correct french varnish the BBC used in the 70's, a side note, that the company still had a colour sheet they did in the 70's and were kind enough to scan and email it to me to check on the colours, the old brown on the colour chart (they painted it on clear perspex and stuck it to a card, so it has all aged the same as on the original prop) has faded to the same as on the original, so mine is the colour it was when new..

And the other side tubes.

c1.staticflickr.com/1/499/18995067855_ce7064bdb4_z.jpgtubes painted by Richard Bailey, on Flickr

One side tubes glued on.

And completed in the laser cut box..

One slight fault I will know when doing another.

The corner supports need checking before gluing to make sure the lid fits flush.

Also got a nice frosted battery box for it to sit on...

Thinking of making a proximity voice module for it, so when you get near it insults you.....

Excellent work, RB. Every home should have a mini orac lurking about.
Zil: Oneness must resist the Host.
Not sure how to do a video, so here is the you tube link.
